Masters swimming at Newport Hills is a workout group of dedicated athletes, age 18 and above, who love to swim. Workouts range from 1500 to 4000 yards, depending on ability. Goals are building endurance and pace, as well as improving stroke technique. Lanes are arranged according to speed to the extent possible.
For the safety of swimmers, it is expected that participants can swim 200 yards uninterrupted with face in the water, 50 yards continuous backstroke, are comfortable swimming in the deep end of the pool and have a basic knowledge of swim etiquette. Familiarity with all four competitive strokes (butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle) is preferred. Kickboards and pull buoys are available if needed; swimmers can bring their own equipment if desired.
Newport Hills masters do not attend meets as a “team”, however if you are registered with United States Masters Swimming (USMS), there are many local and national swim meets available to participate in throughout the year.
